Animals - Doing what a cat does best.

First offering on the animals front, a shot of our cat doing what cats do best.......if best is indicated by what they do most.

I'm reasonably pleased I managed to find a time when she was willing to sit still long enough for me to take a few shots playing with the exposure etc until I got this shot I liked where tinky's fur is nicely exposed and her wiskers in focus without loosing the soft warmness of the sunlight coming in through the window (which Tinky loves so much).

EXIF data.....erm........f3.2, Tv=1/250, ISO 200, FL=31mm.

  1. Nicely done.

Like the depth of field, sharp head and it's just starting to go soft towards the back, f3.2 nice choice.

Don't like the blue blanket though, or more correctly I don't like the clash of the blue against the box/window/wall. I'd much preffered to see a more consistant / tidy backgroud. The blue blanket would be okay but spread out.
That's the joys of shooting animals they don't pose well !

An option might be to crop a bit tighter.
On the bottom level halfway between paws bottom (to be sure all box is gone, shadows can stay though).
On the left just to left of dark window frame.
Any stray bits can then be dodged darker. This would also have the advantage of brining her head closer to point of thirds.

If you were being naughty with photoshop maybe a bit of burning to ligthen her white nose and socks.
And as being naughty maybe a few points of selective unsharp on the face just to help it pop.
On portraits I quite often give the eyes a bit of a sharpen even if already tack sharp helps to pop and I also often give the eyes and teeth a white burn again to help pop.

    Cheers,
    Richard B.
