  2. I rather like the last photo: the 'roo portrait (Roo Too). Although the DOF is a bit small for my taste, you got the eye pin-sharp, which is always good for portraiture. Personally, I'd have emphasised the highlight in the eye.

Is there something going on with the kangaroo's ear? Crash damage, perhaps?

As for the other pics, they're a bit snapshotty for my taste, although I understand your sentiments.

  3. WOW, shot mine last night but not downloaded yet and not sure I'm going to bother, both you and Paul have really smoked it this month.
The Fisheye Roo and the Tofu Knitter are both cracking shots.

    Nature conservation.
Not a bad composition and fits the theme this month well but how was this taken ? or is this Imogen's entry.
No scratch that thought, think it's self timer shot, sorry mate your soft. The auto focus has got you here and focused further back up the track as the car is sharp. Either prefocus manually, set your autofocus point, or use your funky trap focus mode.
The track is a nice leading line but may have worked even stronger if you had the camera off to one side so the track was at an angle so a diagonal leading line ?
P.s. Was the wording on the hoodie deliberate.. This is what I think of Nature 'SLASA' ;-)

    Nature great for driving over.
As Paul said a bit of a snap but not a bad one the car is a bit blown out but would have struggled with the dynamic range from shadows to bright white in the sun. P.s. Is chain allowed on the towing rig ?

    Fisheye Roo.
This is a stunning image and I love the distortion and shallow DOF. Did well to get DOF in a wide angle, must have been VERY close.
Shame about the clutter behind him/her but love the "in your face" effect, maybe you could help it go away with a touch of Gaussian blur ?

    Roo Portrait.
Nice, love the use of off camera flash....Oh it's sunset ;-)
Very good use of negative space, where did the black come from settings or just luck ?
Noticed the ears the same as Paul. Zooming in not sure if its damage or just black hair being lost into the black but that's being uber critical.

Well done Stevo, Antenatal for us tonight so will try to download mine as soon as possible for ridicule.

    Cheers,
    Richard B.

The first two shots were VERY much throw away shots just to raise a chuckle on the theme so I'll say no more about those.

The Fisheye roo is by far my favourate and will be printing this for the wall. The hardest part of that shot was avoiding the the barrel distortion in the decking - the horizontal lines made it very obvious. Thankfully the Roo was very patient and happy to continue posing while I was reshooting.

I tried to clone out the clutter in the background but wasn't working too well so left it as it was. I may put in the effort before printing.

The sunset Roo is a shot I really like from a colour/light point of view and was really pleased with the result. However, the more I look at it the more I get bored with it. I guess it's just a bit too cliche pose. Won't bother to print this one.

The dark ears and hair by the way, not damage from being dragged along by his ear.
