TIME - Richard's Efforts

Okay its "TIME" this month folks so TIME to get your efforts in.

Inspiration didn't strike this month and running out of TIME so though I'd follow Mr. B's efforts and just use tenuous titles ;-)

To honor the departure of the Beckett's to Australia we went for a night TIME shoot of SZ road. Just had TIME to down load and PP so here are the results.
I'm sure Steven will post his HDR'd in TIME and Colin will have shot his but not downloaded yet as no TIME.

TIME spent with friends

EXIF
Canon 350D (Santa PLEASE help !)
Sigma 10-20mm
Av Mode, f22 min, about 13 sec.
-1/3 EV
ISO 100
Normal WB

What TIME is the next Metro

EXIF
Canon 350D (Santa PLEASE help !)
Canon 28-300 IS L
Av Mode, f22 min, about 8 sec.
-1/3 EV
ISO 100
Custom manual WB, shot the "white" off the track sides then tweaked in camera.

There has been some photoshop in these but not much by my standards ;-)
A sort of manual HDR composite.

I'm sure the rest of you can sneak some TIME for a couple of quick shots. Just how much time does 1/4000sec shot take.

Please take TIME and feel free with the C&C.

Cheers,
Richard B.

  1. Seems like everyone's having trouble finding the TIME to post something appropriate this month. Personally, I'm out of inspiration, and when I do post something I promise it won't be clocks and/or watches. Hopefully the back catalogue will be OK...?

Time spent with friends is interesting because it combines the 'traditional' vehicle light tracks with a sky that still has details rather than a blackout. Tiny aperture, I see, because there's still a fair amount of light.

What TIME is the next Metro doesan't really do it for me. The streaks of light are there, but the train is too faint to be meaningful. Now, an off-camera flash to pick out the front of the train might have been interesting. It could have been fired manually sonetime during the 8-second exposure.

  2. Thanks.

    TIME WITH FREINDS
There was a lot of light, forgot to mention that I had +6 of graduated ND filter on the road. I love my GND out here, even got a blue one for the cr4p skies here.
Also part of the car light / sky balance is because it's a composite image.

What TIME is the next metro.
Like the thought on off camera and would have loved to but suspect the boys in blue would have objected. Despite there being no drivers I'm sure the tripod police would have interviend.
Now if you want to mix off camera and the tripod police check out David Hobby.

The police let him put a flash INSIDE one of there birds and then flash while flying !

    Cheers,

  4. Well done Mr C, you managed to get a reference to off board flash into the only post Mr B didn't ;0)

I don't think the Metro one works for me really either, too much 'unlit' concrete and not enough feature light but still worth an experiment.

The light trail one on SZR I like. I have played a few times with the car head lights and can never get them as striking as I'd like. you see shots in the press when the light trails looks like floating florecent strip lights on a lovely dark background. Your longer exposure time (and perhaps the filters) seem to have helped with this. Nice one sir.

Also I know while we were there the street light has been something you'd worried about in the composition but the wide angle and lining it up with the bight part of the background has diluted its impact well. Like this one.

  5. Very tempted to go and have another at the metro but shoot a composite.
Metro fast shutter speed in the light / dusk and then the slow trails in dark. Just composite the metro back in. BUT maybe that's naughty.

    Thanks for the C&C.

    Cheer,
    Richard B.

  6. Do think the train should have been distiguishable in the shot even if stretched by the exposure time.
