I spotted this unlikely sculpture-cum-machine in the Museum of American History. Hand-held, propped against the glass with rear curtain synch to catch both the movement and the real shapes of the cogwheels and cams behind them.

Nicely done, good use of rear curtain.

Only one problem and it's a big one.
The nerd in me wants to know what it does !
There are dozens of pairs of cams on the five shafts. About 3 ft above, each pair is attached to a little paper bird. The whole effect is a flock of flying birds.
ReplyDeleteNo photo: the 'birds' moved too slowly to capture movement, leastways with a handheld camera.
